One of the coolest podcasts out there is 'Poem A Day', by the 'Academy of American Poets'.
As its title suggests, it is a daily podcast, mostly featuring a poem read by a narrator or by the author. And that is how I hear Shara McCallum's voice for the first time.
There is deliberate depth and melody in it and breathes life into a poem that tells a story about relationships and memories.
And it is a privilege to hear it speak to me directly online on a grey November morning. Shara McCallum is sitting in her office at the University of Pennsylvania, where the leaves have started to change colors, and she can enjoy their intensity through the window behind her, while she is facing me during our conversation...
